Freelancers seeking work on any of the job websites know just how tough competition is. Each job that is posted has tens of qualified applicants ready to take on the assignment. In order to stand out in a crowd, you have to post winning bids. These are the bids that will set you apart from your competition.
If you do not want to get the job, use a template. This is a sure way to turn off a potential employer. It is your responsibility to communicate to an employer that you have taken the time to read the job description. It is also your responsibility to tailor a bid specifically for that employer. Whether the job description needs articles on sleigh beds or on world affairs, every employer wants to feel like their project is a priority to you.
Try to incorporate some of the assignment into your bid. For instance, if the job requires you to write several articles on a sleigh bed theme, include how long it will take you to complete the job. This communicates to the employer that you have read the job description carefully and are interested in that individual project.
If an employer writes their name at the end of an assignment, make sure to begin your bid using their name. This makes the bid much more personal and effective. Also, if the employer is vague about the details of the job, ask for specifics before you bid. This will show that you are conscience about the jobs you bid.
Follow up after you have made the bid. Give the employer a few days before sending a follow up message. Remind them of who you are and thank them for their time and consideration. Ask if they need any additional information. This helps as an encouraging factor for employers to give your bid serious consideration.
Maybe you are placing a bid on an assignment that deals with interior design, with an emphasis on bedroom decor. You may even have experience in this area which deals with placing a king sleigh bed in a master bedroom. If so, mention this in your bid. Relevant experience is a plus when bidding.
Remember to stay honest and sincere throughout your bid. It can become easy to write off mechanical bids, but these are probably ineffective bids. When you write creatively, honestly and are committed to your work, you are bound to succeed in writing great bids that will get you more freelance work.
